The Day Zero Experience

Hey there guys. We are all now connected through our love for survivor. Another new season brings us together for such an enjoying round of blindsides and challenges. The top 5 things that stuck out to me, are the following (in no order).

1. The Emotional Bond Between Loved-Ones. I had no idea the emotional attachment would affect the players of the game as much as it did. We all knew Colton wouldn't do well with it, as he didn't do well with finding out on OneWorld that he was on the tribe with dudes. We all knew that Rupert would have made that decision to take his wife's place any day of the week. I'm not sure if he thought things through tho. His wife is now instantly the target on the tribe. And she might be joining him on redemption island soon enough. And while I want to play the game for a million dollars, I too would have given up my spot on the tribe for my loved one, considering I have already played the game, I'd hope they'd get to enjoy the Survivor experience.

2. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Gervase clearly wasn't prepared for this season of Survivor. It's been 13 years since he has played the game. He should have at least learned to swim, or worked on his cardio. And then after being the slow end of the totem pole, he had the nerve to gloat about winning? I know winning is fun, when your adrenaline is pumping and you are so stoked that you just pulled off an epic come from behind victory. But, show some class, considering your loved one is now at risk of going to Redemption Island. Not to mention, had you guys lost the challenge. They would have sent your ass to Redemption Island, because of your lack of physical strength.

3. Day One. This was a great addition to the season. Not only did it instill false hopes in the gullible castaways, it also allowed for a great job to be done by the editing team. Instead of going through randomly and hearing each person talk about themselves. We got to see a little side of everyone, before the show actually got going.

4. The immediate vote off of someone was great. So many hurt feelings. Candice felt betrayed, Rupert couldn't believe it. Candice, should have seen it coming. She was one of the mutineers from her original season. No one needs that kinda drama, floating around with the added effect of loved ones. It was great to watch, as no one had a plan, but everyone's votes were aligned. It was the easy vote for the loved ones. They all know who Rupert is and can be. No need for 3 seasons of survivor to rub off on his wife, to come bite them in the ass. But now it just might.

5. The 5 dude alliance. Culpepper is quite the arrogant ass. He not only shot himself in the foot within the first 5 minutes, but he can't do math. It took him forever to put together that 5 vs 4 line. While it is correct, most people can tell he is SUPER full of himself. Which is great for everyone else.

I think this season already looks like a great season. Winning a challenge means watching your loved ones get voted off. There are sooo many possibilites and I can't believe no one looked for the idol. I can't wait to see next weeks. Old Colton is back!

The Castaways have been revealed. Plus plot twists!

So, most people have already known that past castaways would be joined by their loved ones on this season. What most people didn't know, is the tribe layouts, as well as the new and old plot twists. So, here we go!

First we have Tyson Apostol, Former Villain, and Rachel Foulger, his girlfriend. (34 & 33) They have been labeled as dating, so we'll see if this will be a good test for their relationship. Assuming one of them wins the million dollars, will that strengthen or hurt their relationship. She is a Cocktail Waitress and a Graphic Designer. Let's hope Tyson has learned from his past run-in with Russell Hantz, and learns to actually use his alliance to further himself in the game, instead of his personal greed. This being his 3rd attempt, I am looking to him to have a strong season.

Next we have Aras & Vytas Baskauskas, brothers (31 & 33). Aras as we all know won Panama, and did so in a valiant effort. He had to fight off the individual immunity beast Terry that season. And its because of Aras, that my circle of friends refers to his "Jeff call the Waaaaaaaaaaaahmbulance" line, when he out-witted Terry in a challenge and Terry complained. Vytas is a Yoga Instructor and a Math Professor, so he should be physically fit, as well as smart when it comes to numbers. Aras won 7 years ago, and looks to be in good shape. Hopefully they get to work together, before people realize that Aras is a threat.

Everyone's Fan Favorite, but never a winner, Rupert Boneham returns with his wife Laura Boneham (49 & 44). This will be Rupert's 4th season. He is getting up there in age, but age won't stop people from playing Survivor. I hope he will make it as far as he usually does. I don't really think he has a chance of winning with this cast, only because people will see him as a threat. Everyone loves Rupert, and each day he's in the game, he will will be taking away someones chances at a Million Dollars.

Then there is Candice Cody (Formerly Woodcock) & John Cody (30 & 30). Everyone remembers Candice and Penner's Mutiny to switch tribes back in the Cook Islands. She also made it to the Jury on Heroes vs Villains. I haven't really been a fan of hers since the Raro Mutiny against Aitu. But Aitu went to the final four, so I guess she paid for her mistake. Her husband is a Physician in the Army. He should be fine.

Also in the mix, we have Monica & Brad Culpepper (42 & 44). Monica was one of the strongest girls who could actually help win challenges in One World. After the tribe split, she was arguably the strongest on the "Tribe of Misfits", then was voted out, even tho, she was the only one to score a point in that weeks challenge. I'm anxious to see if she still has that fight and love for the game to take her further into the game. Her husband is an Attorney now, but he played in the NFL, for the Vikings, Buccaneers, and the Bears. Hopefully he hasn't lost his physical abilities. He should do decent.

Then we have the Shock and Awe pair. Colton Cumbie and his fiance Caleb Bankston. I say Shock and Awe, because after the heat that Colton faced last time, its a shock to see him back again so soon, but Awe because he's engaged now. I don't wanna focus on his relationship so I wont. But, Colton is a character. He single handedly took over the tribe of men, by getting the majority alliance (after a slip up by the Muscular Men). But not only that. But he orchestrated one of my top 5 dumbest moves in survivor, and perhaps #1. He convinced his team, to give up the immunity they won (in a challenge that they dominated the girls in), and go to tribal council to blindside Bill Posley. Never in a million years, would ANYONE convince me to give up immunity, let alone tribal immunity. Caleb is a Post Office Manager and a Farmer. I'm sure he is no stranger to hard work. I'd like to see how everyone reacts to Colton, and see if they let him control the game again. I hope not!

The Reality TV team is also going to join us. We have Kat Edorsson & Hayden Moss (23 & 26). Everyone remembers Kat's ups and downs during One World. I feel she never really got her own strategy going, and when it was her time to go, she was so caught up in the game, that she was blindsided by her vote off. Hayden was apparently on Big Brother. I have not watched any episodes of Big Brother, but neither of these two are strangers to Reality TV. They are listed as just dating, so again, another relationship might get put to the test.

We also have Laura Morett & Ciera Eastin coming to the island (43 & 24). This pair is a mother daughter pairing, so the twist for this season might come into play. Laura was on Samoa, and made the Jury, so I think she can handle herself. Her daughter is a cosmetology student. She seems to have a good sense of what's going on. I'm sure her mom will do the maternal thing and coach her on all she can. I don't really know where these two will end up.

Season 1 was 13 years ago, that season brings us Gervase & Marissa Peterson (43 & 21). This is another other parent-child couple. Gervase lasted a long time in the world of Richard Hatch, Susan, and Rudy Bosch. He made it to the Jury. Hopefully he can pass some wisdom off onto his daughter. Marissa is a full time student. Hopefully she has been studying this game along side her father, as the game has changed plenty over the 26 seasons.

And then there was 1. The last pair introduced here is the pair of Tina Wesson & Katie Collins (52 & 25). This mother-daughter combination might find it hard to get their footing. I hope they have a plan. Tina won Australia, and then was voted out first in All-Stars. Everyone remembered how she sort of dominated her season with her alliance. Her comment "So this is what a confessional feels like" was brilliant. She coasted through Australia, then played only 3 days of All-Stars. I hope people don't still look at her as the power-player.

So that's the cast, 20 castaways. Now to the twists..

Twist #1: 39 and a half days. According to Jeff Probst, the first half-day (Day Zero) will be each of the 10 pairs, sent to 10 different spots on the island. Jeff claims that it is to give them the false hope that they will be working together. We don't know if they get to travel to the island together with the other pairs THEN get isolated, so perhaps they are still oblivious to who else is on the island, that would make it even better. (But I know they have casting events where the tribes get first looks at each other, minus the interaction.) I would hope that the pairs use it as a chance to lay down final strategies, and hopes/goals. I know they can't be oblivious to the fact that Survivor wouldn't purposely put family members on the same tribe and cause an instant target on them. So, they get that half-day to strategize, maybe look for idols, food or water. Then that next morning/day, they get introduce to Jeff and the rest of the castaways.

Twist #2: After getting split into their 2 tribes. Returning Castaways = Galang (Yellow) and New Players = Tadhana (Red), they get to twist #2. This twist involves each team voting one member off immediately. No real chance to form any alliances, so I guess this vote will be based of reputation. For the Yellow tribe, I'd assume they'd vote off a past winner, or big favorite like Rupert/Colton. For the Red tribe, they'd probably vote off someone who looks weak, or someone related to a power player, so they never get the chance to eventually merge/team up with them.

Twist #3: It comes after the immediate vote. Those two players aren't voted off. Jeff will reveal that Redemption Island is back. Redemption Island will consist of 3 player challenges. So those two who were voted off, will go to Redemption Island with the hopes of fighting their way back into the game.  At Redemption Island, the winner of the 3-way duel, will receive a clue to the hidden immunity idol. I would assume its on Redemption Island, but it would provide no use, unless part of Twist 4 comes into effect, or they get back into the game. The 3rd place finisher in the 3-way will be sent packing.

Twist #4: This twist is a two-parter. The first chance for this to happen is immediately after twist #3 is revealed. After it is revealed, Jeff allows the loved one to take the place of their loved one at redemption island. For example. IF the red team thinks Rupert's wife is weak. They could vote her to redemption, Rupert could take her place at redemption and his wife would then go back onto the yellow tribe. The second chance for this to happen is AT Redemption Island. After the challenge is revealed if a loved one, wants to swap places with their loved one, they can. For instance, if there is a Puzzle Type challenge and Vytas is involved. If Aras thinks he has a better chance of doing the puzzle, he can swap his spot on the yellow tribe for Vytas' spot at Redemption Island.

With all the swapping, and potential game plans, I hope this season turns out to be good. Sorry if this was too much text, but this is what you can expect from a hardcore survivor fan. On future posts I'll just be taking the top 5 things that stuck out to me, from the episodes and talking about them. Thanks for reading. Have a good day!

Survivor: Blood vs Water

(picture taken from Survivor Wikia)

Alrighty guys. I'm going to actually do this blog for the next season of survivor. I've been reading 3 survivor blogs for a while. I love seeing other people's thought process and write ups of episodes. I probably won't be doing a straight forward recap of an episode. I will more than likely be pulling the 5 most entertaining topics from the episodes. I want it to be not a blog you read to figure out what happened last time on Survivor. I want it to be an insight into how my brain works as a Survivor Fan, and how I see the game going. I welcome conversations about topics. I am on several facebook Survivor groups, as well as Google Plus. I enjoy talking to anyone about survivor. My friends all love Survivor, as well as a handful of co-workers. Thursdays might be my favorite day at work, because we all get to talk about the past episode.

The next post I will go ahead and talk about my predictions for this up coming season. The worst part is, they start filming on the 19th. Which means, if you count 39 days from there, that should be around June 27th, when they finish taping. Then add in some editing, and promotional video setups. I'd say we are probably looking at a September Season. I also read that according to Philippine sources. They are going to be filming there for 6 months? So perhaps, they'll film 2 seasons back to back, like they did with the last two? We shall see.

So. Hopefully this turns out well and we get some followers. If not, worst case scenario. I'll just use it to talk to myself about it. Yay internet!
